The Art of S.K. Duff
by Janice McCormick and Edward Main
"S.K. Duff’s exhibit Inside-R-Out, on display in August at Living Arts of Tulsa’s now old location on Kenosha, featured a body of work that was not only witty and colorful, but also powerful and profound."
"Living Arts is pleased to present new artworks by Tulsa born, now NYC artist, S.K. Duff influenced by his recent work with elementary students. Based on childrens' naivety, SK’s work is filtered through his interdisciplinary arts background. Opening is from 6-9pm with an artist’s talk at 7pm."

"You’ve referred to yourself as an honorary “outsider,” in reference to the outsider art movement that has inspired your work. It seems funny to be influenced by an art movement that by definition is about the absence of influences. Can you talk a little about your experience?"
Artist emerges from dark to childlike color

"The Madness of King George," one of the works by former Tulsan S.K. Duff that make up the exhibit "Inside-R-Out" that goes on display Thursday at Living Arts of Tulsa, 308 S. Kenosha Ave.
It took a tap on the foot to bring a burst of color to S.K. Duff's world.
"Oh, the color was always there," the former Tulsan said, talking about the paintings he used to create. "But it was always buried under a thick coat of black paint."
The Outsider - Former Tulsan to Present Wondrous Works
"My images take on the unexplainable (i.e. the magic and the chaos) of our existence, attempting to produce some sense of understanding, no matter how simplistic or primitive." -- "In that way his work, with sophisticated imagery with seemingly crude or primitive techniques fits into the concept of Outsider Art..."

With my students from the Hoboken Charter School.National Service Learning Conference
April 2008
"Hoboken Charter School art teacher S.K. Duff was been asked to speak alongside South African civil rights leader Desmond Tutu at the National Service Learning Conference in April 2008 in Minneapolis.
Duff, who has been ranked nationally as a teacher, spoke about how he combines art and service learning in ways that promote progressive change. Some of his most recent class assignments include Bali Hi Java Jam for Javanese earthquake relief and Young Folk for Folk art auction, which supported outsider artists in the wake of Hurricane Katrina."
